2019 Veterans Parade

The Manhattan Veteran’s Day Parade was another cold, snowy afternoon. That didn’t stop a few of our riders. They did mention afterward that there was a little bit of slipping and sliding going on.

Dinner Ride-Little Grill

One of our monthly dinner rides/drives was to a Jamaican restaurant here in Manhattan.  The food is excellent and sometimes there is entertainment.

Trunk or Treat

71666903_10214661704564931_5233569301176254464_oOn Saturday,October 19th from 4-6 pm, the American Legion put together a “Trunk or Treat” at Post 17.  There were fun activities and lots of candy for the kids.

They were hoping for a good turnout since this was the first year for “Trunk or Treat”. They estimated to have had around 300 participants. It was a great success.

5th Annual Kansas Legacy Run

62151756_2663147830366254_7258198270122393600_oSeveral of our members participated in The 5th Annual Kansas Legacy Run. The ride began on June 6th in Wichita and ended on June 9th in El Dorado.

The total miles for the Legacy Run was close to 1200. All together there were more than 50 riders from different Post in Kansas.

The Legacy Run was started nationally to provide a scholarship opportunity for children of those military members who lost their lives while serving our country. This fund has now been extended to include children of post 9/11 era and disabled veterans who are considered to be more than 50% disabled. Continue reading

Battle Of The Bulge- 74 Years Later

On Saturday, January 26, 2019 the American Legion in Manhattan, KS had very important guest.

IMG_4522Eight WWII Veterans were in attendance to commemorate 74 years since the end of the Battle of the Bulge. The veterans ranged from 93 to 100 years old.

During the event several of the veterans told stories about what it was like during the battle.

The American Legion Riders served lunch to the veterans, their family and guest.

Turkey Run 2018

46354721_2054667918158584_1618581120104792064_nOn November 17th the American Legion Riders participated in the annual Fort Riley Turkey Run.

There was enough food donated to serve 600 complete turkey dinners to Fort Riley families.

The Manhattan (Post 17) and the Chapman (Post 240) contributed the 600 bags of marshmallows for the dinners. Continue reading
