2016 Brownbag ride

IMG_2014We took the back roads for our annual “Brownbag ride”. The destination was Abilene, Kansas.

Our group was small for this ride (9 of us).

It doesn’t matter if we have 5 members or 25 participating in our rides it is always a fun time. Continue reading

Waterfalls And Haunted Places

DSC00966What happens when you plan a motorcycle trip in May? In Kansas?

You get cold weather! And within our first 45 miles, we got pelleted by freezing rain twice. Several people in the group backed out because of the cold temperatures, but those of us who went on this trip had a great time.

We stopped in Marion, KS to see our first waterfall. It is a manmade one in the city park area, but it was still very pretty. Next we made our way to Ellinwood, KS to check out the underground tunnels and old Hotel (with paranormal activity).

If you weren’t able to make it for dinner, you missed out on Beef stroganoff with homemade egg noodles. We also served country green beans, salad and dinner rolls.

If that wasn’t already good enough we also had brownies, ice cream and homemade chocolate fudge sauce. Yummy!!

We want to thank Vista Drive-In for donating the ice cream.

Sunday Ride To Hog Holler

HHFinally a beautiful day to go for a ride with the American Legion Riders.

Our destination for today is the Hog Holler Saloon/Restaurant in Ozawkie, Kansas. It is approximately 120 miles round trip.

We left the Legion at 11:00am with 18 riders.

The ride to Hog Holler was good. It was a little windy on the way and then got a lot windy on the way back home. That is something riders have to deal with all the time living in Kansas. The wind won’t stop us! Continue reading

The meal included potatoes, carrots,  two types of horseradish sauce, four different types of Irish Soda bread muffins and plenty of desserts.

We received so many compliments on this dinner. It is definitely going to make it on our list for future fundraisers.

Speaking of fundraisers….this meal is in support of the “Peace Memorial Auditorium”.

Chili Feed Fundraiser In December

chili feedOn December 4th the American Legion Riders put on a chili feed for their monthly fundraiser. It was another great success!!

We had several different types of chili (mild to very hot) and cornbread (regular to jalapeno) plus hot dogs and corn chips.

Check out all the desserts we had to offer. No one went home hungry!

All the money raised was used to purchase Christmas presents for families at the Crisis center, a family from a neighboring community and Toys for Tots.

Take a look at the wrapping party we had to get the presents ready for the families we adopted.

Christmas Shopping

ALR Shopping for presentsAll the money raised during our chili feed fundraiser dinner in December was used to buy presents for families in need.

The American Riders adopted  families at the Crisis center, a family from a neighboring community and gave money to the Toys for Tots.

We really enjoyed shopping for the presents and had even more fun wrapping everything.

It was great being able to help those families.

In the pictures below, there are only pictures from one shopping trip. We actually went on two separate occasions, but forgot to take pictures the first time. Continue reading
